Terminology

Functional Art: An object with a dual status, a status as art and an active functional status. The functional status implies that the object performs some work or serves some purpose.

Found Art: Art created from common objects not normally considered to be artistic. The idea behind "found art" is that the piece of art derives its significance from the context into which it is put. "Found Art" blurs the traditional lines of what art is and questions the very nature of art itself.  (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Assemblage: A sculptural composition consisting of an arrangement of miscellaneous objects or found materials.

Transformation: The process of assembling objects or forms with one intended function into another object or form with a distinctly different function. In a similar fashion, the mind can be transformed when expectations are challenged, like when one experiences a clarinet masquerading as a lamp!

Musical Transformations: A term that was "coined" to describe the particular "kind" of assemblage as represented within this website. It is also the name of the website itself.
